They say pride comes before a fall, yet it is a human nature and an impediment to humility. Pride can be subtle yet a great burden. It feeds on counting ourselves superior to and more important than others, and God’s will upon our lives. Pride is the origin of much trouble and suffering.
If you’re proud, you are guaranteed to be humbled as life is continually balancing out. If you have been humbled, you know by now that it is not pretty.
I have been humbled- it was ugly and a story for another day. Through my sanctification process, humility has been a key refinement process that is dealing with the persistent roach that is pride.
Pride is an ugly, cunning and cute looking monster. It often steals our potential, destiny and connections. Pride gently whispers to us that we don’t need to ask for help, that we’re better than others and it lacks a spirit of honor or submission.
Through experience and research, I have discovered that a great percentage of great and successful men and women are humble. They must know something that most people do not perceive. Let’s be honest. All of us would like to find greater success, to do great things and get results, and to grow spiritually, mentally and physically.
Isaiah 66:2 – All these things my hand has made, and so all these things are mine, says the Lord. But this is the man to whom I will look, he that is humble and contrite in spirit, and trembles at my word. James 4:6 – But he gives more grace; therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble. 1 Peter 5:5 – Likewise you that are younger be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Proverbs 15:1 – A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
I have made it a habit to pray for wisdom and humility because it is challenging to walk in these virtues. Humility, according to Scripture, is not something we can just up and do- we need God.
Humility as an authentic lack of pride and a modest view of ourselves is a major central theme in the Bible. God cherishes humility so highly. Pride, however, is contradictory to the mind of Christ. God resists the proud.

Importance of Humility
- Success. We gain wisdom, access God’s grace and blessings through Humility.
- Humility opens doors faster and actualizes dreams, purpose and vision. Humble people have great leadership skills and self-awareness.
- Growth. Pride separates us from God as we do not acknowledge and appreciate the eternal sovereignty of our Lord. The proud are cast down and will be humbled. James 4:10.
- Intimacy with God. We must approach God’s throne with humility to enter into HIS presence. 1 Peter 5:6. The meek shall inherit the earth. Matthew 5:5.
- Jesus humbled Himself as an example for us. Philippians 2:5-11. Through humility, we access the promise of ultimately reigning with Christ. 2 Timothy 2:12.
Without humility, we cannot do the work God wants to do in and through us. God calls us to humble ourselves as followers of Christ, to trust in HIS wisdom and salvation and to see ourselves as we actually are, helpless without God.

Proverbs 22:4. Humility is the fear of the Lord; its wages are riches and honor and life. Proverbs 11:2 – When pride comes, then comes disgrace; but with the humble is wisdom. Luke 12:1 – Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. 1 Peter 5:8. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. James 4:10. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you. Psalm 25:9. He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way. Romans 12:3 – For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of yourself more highly than you ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. Ezekiel 28:17 – Your heart was proud because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor. I cast you to the ground; I exposed you before kings, to feast their eyes on you. Isaiah 14:13 – You said in your heart, “I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God” Matthew 11:29 – Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Philippians 2:7-8 – but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death—even death on a cross. Matthew 3:13-17 – Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan, to be baptized by him. John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now; for it is proper for us in this way to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented. And when Jesus had been baptized, just as he came up from the water, suddenly the heavens were opened to him and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.” John 13:3-11 – And during supper Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going to God, got up from the table, took off his outer robe, and tied a towel around himself. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was tied around him. He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?” Jesus answered, “You do not know now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” Peter said to him, “You will never wash my feet.” Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no share with me.” Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!” Jesus said to him, “One who has bathed does not need to wash, except for the feet, but is entirely clean. And you are clean, though not all of you.” For he knew who was to betray him; for this reason he said, “Not all of you are clean.” Philippians 2:3-4. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. https://thelovetablet.com/2022/05/31/judge-not-judging-the-right-judgement/ https://thelovetablet.com/2022/05/24/mind-minding-your-mind-you-are-what-you-think/
