Here’s 10 Dramatic And Romantic Stories from the Bible

  1. Abraham and Sarah: Genesis 15-17. Imagine burning with love for each other for decades upon decades despite the lack of an heir in a society that demands it? Abraham and Sarah lived this reality. Sarai, who was barren and desperate, sort to offering her servant, Hagar, as a tool to bear her child. By not consulting God, Hagar became that thorn in Sarah’s flesh but was dealt with forcing her to flee. God, in the end, recompensed Sarah and Abraham with the heir they so critically sought in a son, Isaac. Love does win.
  2. Isaac and Rebeccah. Genesis 24. Didn’t somebody say life is the flower for which love is the honey? Isaac got Rebekah, whose appearance and kindness was prophesied by God. Rebekah stunned Isaac’s servant by offering water for his camels at the well. Isaac’s servant was also armed with valuable jewellery for her as they made a request to her in becoming Isaac’s wife. Isaac wasted no time, and immediately married her as per custom. Can I get an Amen for brother Isaac please!
  3. Jacob’s entanglement with Rachel and Leah. Genesis 29. This love triangle would make a hit drama series on Netflix today- only it wasn’t fiction. It was foxy and a crafty situation… Which lady today wouldn’t long for their future hubby to be a Jacob? Uncle Laban sure did him wrong and some! Jacob adored Rachel and loved her dearly that he yielded years of his life to appease uncle Laban as a servant. Yet he was bamboozled and given the older sister, Leah disguised under a cute veil. Jacob wasn’t giving up on love though- he had to work for a further seven years for Rachel. What a rather mind boggling romantic tale! Nothing like love fought for- wisely.
  4. Ruth and Boaz. Ruth 1-4. Food hustle meets love. Ruth after the death of her husband, became the provider and full-time carer of her mother-in-law, Naomi, whom she cherished. This was seen as noble by Boaz, a man of wealth and influence in the community. He regarded her with favor and began leaving extra food for her. Isn’t it a known fact that a man will try and make life easier for the woman he’s trying to dazzle? Well, Boaz married Ruth, protected, upheld and covered her with care. The way to a man’s and a woman’s heart can sometimes be through the stomach.
  5. Michal and David. 1 Samuel 18-19. Michal betrayed King Saul, her father by telling her husband David of the plot to kill him. She loved her dad but assuredly loved David enough to put herself at great danger to ensure the asylum for the man she loved. A dangerous move considering Saul was a ruthless and jealous king. Through royalty and peasantry, love stood.
  6. Mary and Joseph. Matthew 1. God mediated in their relationship and blessed them through the Holy Spirit into bringing forth the messiah into the world. Mary and Joseph later had a larger family and were blessed.
  7. Adam and Eve. Adam must have got a little bored after individually naming the other imminent allies that God had created such as animals, insects or trees- horrible chatterers. To comfort Adam, God created a woman, Eve with whom Adam cheerily skipped with around the Garden of Eden as heartthrobs. That is, until that green eyed monster, father of lies and master accuser- the devil seduced sister Eve into sin. Notably, God cursed the devil, he cursed the ground to strain and hard work but he never cursed the man and woman.
  8. Esther and King Ahasuerus. Esther, the overwhelmingly dazzling and beautiful commoner supernaturally married into royalty and got to save her people from death through the king’s favor. Dreams do come true.
