Most single people have experienced unwarranted and unsolicited advice, rebuke or threats at one point or another.

Singlehood refers to the state of being unmarried; you could be dating, courting or completely single.

Categories of Singleness

  • Bible Singleness: This is our main focus today.
  • Singleness By Choice.
  • Singleness By Bondage: If you’re a serious believer, God will most definitely guide and set you free.

What does the Bible say about singlehood? Is singlehood a gift with benefits according to the Bible?

It’s a heartache to admit that many unmarried Christians do not enjoy the experience of singlehood because of worldly pressures and some churches treating them as second-class citizens.

Far too many single people fear they are missing out on God’s plan for their lives if they aren’t married. They feel as if their lives are in limbo, like they are stuck at home in a curfew during a pandemic and can not move around as they wish.

5 Gifts of Being Single According to the Bible

God says in Isaiah,
For your husband is your Maker,
Whose name is the Lord of hosts;
And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel,
Who is called the God of all the earth.
“For the Lord has called you,
Like a wife forsaken and grieved in spirit,
Even like a wife of one’s youth when she is rejected,”
Says your God. Isaiah 54:5-6
  1. Eyes On The Prize: Biblical Singlehood is a gift that provides a great opportunity to focus on God. Singlehood and marriage are both gifts to glorify and serve God. (1 Corinthians 7:7).
  2. Refinement Like Gold: Biblical Singlehood is a gift, a refinement process to a healthy and enjoyable marriage for those called to the marriage ministry. It’s worth the wait.
Matthew 19: 10-12:
The disciples said to him, “If such is the case of a man with his wife, it is better not to marry.” But he said to them, “Not everyone can receive this saying, but only those to whom it is given. For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let the one who is able to receive this receive it.”
  1. Contentment in The Now: Biblical Singlehood is a gift that teaches us be content in Christ. If singleness feels like a trial to you as a Christian, it is an opportunity to grow and be shaped positively in Christ.
James 1:2-4: 
Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”

  2. Favor with God: Biblical Singlehood is a Gift to harness God’s blessings for the singles.
For thus says the Lord: ‘To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths, who choose the things that please me and hold fast my covenant, I will give in my house and within my walls a monument and a name better than sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that shall not be cut off.’” Isaiah 56:4-5

Nailing The Singlehood Boat

  • Building yourself up to the fullest capacity by avoiding a mediocre lifestyle: obtain that degree, travel, dance in the rain and make good memories.
  • Most importantly, devote yourself fully to God! The Lord has gifted you lots of time for a deeper relationship with you before you get married.
“But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world—how he can please his wife—and his interests are divided. An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord’s affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world—how she can please her husband.” 1 Corinthians 7:34 
  • Resist growing bitter to avoid a negative impact.
  • Pray Consistently and Fervently for everything. Pray and thank God in advance for your career, purpose, family etc.
  • Chill and have fun because in God’s time, He makes all things beautiful.
Acts 10:4 Cornelius stared at him (an angel) in fear. “What is it, LORD?” Cornelius asked. The angel answered, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God.
