10 Thriving Businesswomen Of The Bible

For many years, critics have characterized the Bible of defining gender roles in terms of patriarchy. Patriarchy is a system in which men hold the power and women are largely excluded from it.

Does the Bible promote patriarchy though?

Today, we share with you a few Biblical facts and the relevant scriptures.

We take this moment to bust bubbles of #TheBibleIsAPatriarchalMovement. At least I hope so. *batters eyelids*

Those Fearless Business Ladies in The Bible:

  1. The Legal Lioness: Deborah the female judge aggressively pulled on the moral bridle of Israel to return to worship of the one true God in Israel. This woman of excellence ruthlessly kept evil agents away from the land. She did a purification in order to keep Israel spiritually complacent and fought against slavery. Judges 4:9
  2. Miss Boss Lady: Lydia was a serious wealthy entrepreneur. She engaged in the lucrative trade of purple cloth associated with the elite, rich and royal of the day. She worked that rare purple dye to secure the paper. Lydia was more than just a woman who sold luxury goods to the elite and the powerful. She appears to be the head of her household, an employer and a rooted Christian believer. Acts 16:14-15.
  3. The Gold Spitting Queen: The Proverbs 31 woman kept busy while her respected husband attended governance matters as an elder man/leader. Her businesses in wool and flax, food imports, real estate, textiles and garments, exports of sashes, etc., all thrived and prospered beyond measure. This Mummy fed her household, clothed them with fine linen and the royal purple, and opened her arms to the poor and needy. She constantly caught that worm as an early riser. She taught her son about the qualities of a good, virtuous wife. Talk about leading by example.
  4. Miss Humility Obedience: Mary of Nazareth humbly accepted God’s call to bore for all humanity the savior of the world. Luke 1:26-33. Thank God we have a choice on salvation and securing the Eternal Life promised seat!
  5. The Creative Artisans: Priscilla and her husband Aquila were wealthy and successful tent makers. Acts 18:26.
  6. CEO of Care Ltd: Miss Phoebe held the high position as a patron or benefactor. Paul commended her for being a diakonos– an influential public role reserved for wealthy women at the time.
  7. He Put a Ring on It While I was Working: Ruth the Moabite faced great tribulation as a widow. She boldly followed Naomi to Israel. While she was working, she met her protector and husband, Boaz, the rich teddy bear with a huge heart.
  8. Everything Ministry: Mary Magdalene was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. She ventured alongside Jesus and his disciples in ministry. She served well and wholeheartedly to fulfill her purpose.
  9. Beauty and Brains: Esther the beauty queen through God’s wisdom and obedience established a safe place for Jews to worship in the land. This paid off through prayer and fasting, a relationship, and good OLE food for her king as a strategy to save her people.
  10. Minister Miriam the prophetess and Moses’ sister: If you are well versed in spiritual matters, you know that the prophesy ministry has authority. God speaks through you and people must listen.

If you’ve been in Christian circles long enough, then I know you’ve read Ephesians 5:21-33 scripture frontwards and backwards. It is quoted partly and frequently used controversially.

Paul asks wives to submit to their husbands-which is quoted widely. Paul in the same chapter then goes on ahead and asks husbands to love their wives just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.

How can you not submit to someone who loves you wholeheartedly to a point of dying for you? That reciprocated love offering for wives and submission to husbands seem a bewildering buffet that would whet anyone’s appetite. A coin in the couple.

I don’t know about you but if you can die for me, it means you can only afford insurmountable love for me and trust, I will reciprocate. I will submit. I will love you back triple compounded times. Are we together Husbands out there?
